How Creating a Process Can Help You Be More Resilient
As someone who speaks about Resilience, and has had to develop skills and a framework to become that way in my own life.
Resilience is the ability to adapt to change, cope with challenges, and bounce back from setbacks. It is a key skill that can help us to navigate the ups and downs of life with grace and strength.
However, it’s not something that we are born with. It’s a skill that can be developed and strengthened over time.
I want to share with you the first of the 3 Pillars that exist in order to become resilient.
It’s creating a process for yourself.
Creating a process for yourself is an essential step in building your resilience.
A process is a set of steps or actions that you take to achieve a specific goal or outcome and can help you to stay focused, motivated, and on track, even when things get tough.
Here are some of the ways that creating a process can help you be more resilient:
Gives you a sense of control: When we are facing challenges or adversity, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless. Creating a process for yourself gives you a sense of control over the situation. By breaking down the problem into manageable steps, you can take action and move forward, even when things seem uncertain or difficult.
Helps you stay focused: When we are dealing with a lot of stress or uncertainty, it can be easy to get distracted or lose focus. When you create a process, it can help you to stay focused on your goals and priorities. By having a clear set of steps to follow, you can avoid getting sidetracked by distractions or obstacles.
Builds confidence: When we are faced with challenges or setbacks, it can be easy to doubt ourselves and our abilities. Taking action can help to build confidence and self-esteem. By achieving small goals along the way, you can gain momentum and feel more confident in your ability to overcome obstacles.
Provides structure and routine: When we are dealing with a lot of stress or uncertainty, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and disorganized. A process provides structure and routine to your life. By following a set of steps, you can create a sense of order and predictability, which can help to reduce stress and anxiety.
Helps you stay motivated: When we are facing challenges or setbacks, it can be easy to lose motivation and give up. Processes help you to stay motivated by breaking down the problem into smaller, more manageable steps. By achieving small goals along the way, you can stay motivated and focused on your ultimate goal.
So, how do you create a process for yourself? Here are some tips:
Identify your goal: What do you want to achieve? Be specific and write it down.
Break it down into smaller steps: What do you need to do to achieve your goal? Write down each step.
Determine timelines: When do you need to complete each step in order to achieve your goal on time?
Take action: There’s no time like the present. Start with the first step, and work your way down.
Evaluate and adjust: Evaluate your progress along the way and adjust your process as needed. Are there any steps that are not working? Do you need to make any changes to your timelines or steps?
Creating a process can seem daunting, especially if you are in the midst of a difficult situation. However, it’s important to remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect and can be adjusted as needed.
So, give yourself a gift of relief and know that just starting puts you in a much better position mentally and emotionally.
