Inside Out

Tears

Laughter

Vomit

Words

Shouts

Moans

Growls

Breath

All are ways our body turns inside out

The words pour from me

Without a stopper

The thoughts come bubbling to the surface

Suspended, waiting as I search for the word

that truthfully tells the feeling

Releasing tension

We all are fumbling through a thesaurus

Feeling for words

To reveal what is happening inside

The love

The disappointment

The rage

The fear

The disgust

The grief

The lust

The electricity

The shame

Even when we share the language

Our words carry different weights

Different meanings

Different stories

Different traditions

Different significance

 A silent word

Never spoken

Never risked

Never shared

Is a missed chance

For shared truth

And so we search our 26 for words

That connect and resonate

With our internal vibrations

Knowing that they may cause

A different sort of movement

In the listener

Why do you think we say

Express yourself

To squeeze out

Wring out

Release

What is inside

As a mother expresses milk

Let the sweetness in your words flow

Or the toxins in your words

Or the pain in your words

Or the love in your words

What we don’t express

Is stored in the body

Open the throat

Tell the truth

Share the moment

of pain and grief

of joy and longing

and create life

with your words.
